Traditional Discovery Camps (Ages 7-9)

Option 1: Mountain Adventure Discovery Camp - 6 days, 5 nights

Session 1 (June 2-7), Session 2 (June 9-14), Session 6 (July 7-July 12), Session 10 (Aug 4-9)

During Mountain Adventure Discovery camp, campers will learn the ropes of rappelling and ground knot courses, explore with Leave No Trace hiking and spend quality time at the archery range. This traditional camp experience also includes swimming in the pool and canoeing on the lake as well as other classics such as tie-dye, gaga ball and NASA GLOBE Goes to Camp activities. Weather permitting, campers can expect a s'mores sneakout and an evening session of astronomy. Campers ultimately learn what it means to take care of themselves, their friends and their environment. At the same time, they develop a sense of community, responsibility and adventure while nurturing their confidence and resilience. Our adventurers will also revel in magical traditions, including opening and closing campfires, Breakfast of Champions, Battle for the Paddle and a bead ceremony, which help create community and connection for all.

Option 2: Waterfront Discovery Camp - 6 days, 5 nights

Session 3 (June 16-21), Session 4 (June 23-28), Session 7 (July 14-19), 
Session 8 (July 21-26), Session 9 (July 28-Aug 2)

During Waterfront Discovery Camp, campers will learn the foundational skills of flatwater canoeing and paddleboarding at the waterfront. From boat safety to efficient paddling to re-learning steering techniques, this water-themed camp is certain to keep your camper cool. On top of savoring classic camp activities—like beginner hiking, archery, tie-dye, gaga ball, and NASA GLOBE Goes to Camp activities—they will also have plenty of time to cool off in the pool with friends and enjoy an iconic view of the valley. Weather permitting, campers can look forward to a s'mores sneakout and an evening astronomy session. Surrounded by a welcoming community, campers experience magical camp traditions, including Breakfast of Champions, opening and closing campfires, Battle for the Paddle and a bead ceremony. They'll leave YMCA Camp Santa Maria with nurtured confidence and countless friendships. Curiosity and determination are required; previous waterfront experience is not.
