Jackson & Nancy: Living Our Cause

Jan 5, 2016, 10:06 AM by

This month's Living Our Cause Award winners are very different: One who's spent nearly the last decade of his life moving up the ranks of the YMCA of Boulder Valley, and the other who has just begun her journey. That's the beauty of the YMCA. No matter how long you have worked here, no matter which department you work in, you have the potential to make an impact in the lives of YMCA program participants and members — keeping our neighbors healthy, connected and active, developing young minds and strengthening community.

Title: Multi-Branch Executive Director

How long have you worked for the Y? Nine years in YMCAs, and eight years at the YMCA of Boulder Valley.

I work for the Y because… I believe in the cause.

The most fun part about my job is… The people I meet and serve on a daily basis.

The most meaningful part of my job is… Meeting people where they are and making sure they feel welcome at the Y.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned while working at the Y is… To focus on what you can control.

Title: Assistant Director/School Age Programs

How long have you worked for the Y? 4+ months

I work for the Y because… It is a great fit! I love working with kids and feel that the work I do is very valuable for both the adults and children alike!

The most fun part about my job is… Helping a child feel good about themselves, as an individual and as part of the YMCA family!

The most meaningful part of my job is… Being a consistent and caring presence in the lives of children.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned while working at the Y is… The importance of being a valued member of a cohesive team. Together, we really do make a difference.
