Get To Know Our Volunteer of the Month

Kristi Stephan

How long have you volunteered for the Y?
I have volunteered at this Y for 17 years (and other Ys for even longer). I began at this Y as a volunteer youth hockey coach and later became involved in fundraising.

I support the Y by: I currently serve as Vice Chair of the Board, Chair of the Financial Development Committee, member of the Executive Committee and a fundraiser.

I volunteer with the Y because: I love the sense of community created at all three branches of our Y. The Y is a place where everyone is welcome and no one is turned away. I have many great friends involved with the Y as volunteers and employees. It is a wonderful place that does an incredible amount of good for kids and adults in our community.

Volunteering in general is important to me because: I believe in giving back and being of service to those who deserve assistance.

What’s your advice for people who are thinking about volunteering for the Y? The Y has a volunteer role for everyone who takes an interest in making a change in our community. We do change lives every day, and it feels great to be part of that. Your time, talent and treasure are and will be much appreciated for many years to come.

What’s your favorite part of volunteering? I see so many happy faces, children and adults, at the Y. It warms my heart to know that I am making a big difference for families, whatever that looks like to each family. It really is about creating a positive change and great environment for families.

Volunteer Impact

"Kristi is a top notch volunteer. She is the kind of volunteer that every organization wishes for. She is committed to making a positive impact on her location community. She gives generously of her time, talent and treasure to help make the YMCA of Boulder Valley a cornerstone of our community. Kristi’s kindness, intelligence and strength of character make her an important part of the Y and I thank her from the bottom of my heart for all of the work she’s done for us." —Jen Moriarty, former Vice President of Development
