Name: Matt Gorr

How long have you volunteered for the Y? 8 years

matt-gorr-volunteerI support the Y by: Serving on the board of directors. I am currently the Board Chair and have served as the organization’s treasurer for 3 years and vice chair of the organization for 1 year. I have also led the annual community support campaign as campaign chair twice.

I volunteer with the Y because: Our community is better because of the work the Y does within it. I am passionate about kids having opportunities to participate in all types of Y programs, and it is rewarding to know that no child is turned away because they may not have the financial capacity to participate. The Y is unlike any other type of nonprofit because of the outreach it provides to so many within the community. We impact the lives of parents, seniors and kids on a daily basis. The YMCA of Boulder Valley provides nearly $1 million in scholarships annually! To those families that would not be able to have their son or daughter play sports, attend camps, go to preschool, etc., this organization is life changing. It is a privilege to be Y volunteer and assist with providing this type of impact to our community.

Volunteering in general is important to me because: I am fortunate to have many blessings including a great family with 3 kids. Volunteering and being able to contribute financially and professionally has been very rewarding and has impacted my entire family. We are proud to be associated with YMCA of Boulder Valley.

What’s your advice for people who are thinking about volunteering for the Y? Go for it! It is worth your investment.

What’s your favorite part of volunteering? Seeing how we are able to impact the lives of kids. There is a lot of need in this community, and the Y is making a difference each and every day.
