Volunteer of the Month: Jeff Rozic

Oct 1, 2018, 12:28 PM by Y Staff

Meet Jeff Rozic, a long-time volunteer sport coach who goes the distance to make sure all kids have an amazing experience in Y Sports

Jeff Rozic coaches youth soccer through the Y

How long have you volunteered for the Y? I've been volunteering for the YMCA as a youth sports coach of multiple teams and sports since we returned to Boulder in 2015. This is our fourth school year of being involved — plus we did some YMCA Jr. Buffs soccer back in 2011 and 2012!

I support the Y by: I love to coach — especially basketball and soccer. Those sports are huge in our household and in our neighborhood; they've kept us busy!

I volunteer with the Y because: It's a well-run youth sports program and a true presence here in Boulder that gives so many kids chances to play structured sports at a low cost.

Volunteer of the Month, Jeff Rozic, and his familyVolunteering in general is important to me because: Both for myself growing up and for my kids (ages 10, 7 and 2), we've been so fortunate to have amazing volunteers in sports and schools (including Columbine Elementary School, where our older two go). It just became important to start giving back to kids as quickly as possible. I have a long way to go! I also love working with college students. But selfishly, I just loving coaching soccer and hoops!

What’s your advice for people who are thinking about volunteering for the Y? Do it! There's so many ways to contribute that you can find one that fits your personality and schedule. Coaching is a lot of time a few months a year and I'm lucky enough that it fits our life well.

What’s your favorite part of volunteering? My favorite part of volunteering is — again — impacting kids in a very applied way that has always been meaningful in my life — team sports. Whether myself or the other great parents who have coached my kids, or my dad coaching me growing up when he didn't even know anything about soccer to start, it's just such a simple and important way to stay involved in your kids' lives and your favorite sports.

Why We Love Jeff

"Jeff has been a Y coach for years, and he coaches multiple sports. He is the most welcoming, inclusive and accommodating coach that we have in our program currently. He is willing to change practice times, overfill rosters and move games just so that everyone has a positive experience at the Y and on the field/court. He’s super positive and welcoming to everyone on his team. He truly embodies the Y Way to Play. He is always accommodating to new players/participants of all skill levels." — Katy Brown, Associate Program Director Of Soccer, Volleyball, and Lacrosse
