Meet Molly Waterman (pictured above on the right), a board member and committee member who served as the Y Splash Committee chair for three years. This fall, she helped the Y raise hundreds of thousands of dollars during the Y Splash Gala.

How long have you volunteered for the Y? I’m finishing my fourth year as a board member. I also helped in Child Watch in the early 2000s.

I support the Y by: In January 2015 I joined the Y Board of Directors and immediately became involved in the Y Splash Committee and the Appreciation Committee.

In 2016, I was co-chair of Y Splash, and then I took over as chair in 2017 and 2018. What a creative, energetic and supportive committee we are blessed with! Our most recent Y Splash hosted more than 500 guests who raised $430,000 in one night.

Since 2017, I’ve also chaired the Appreciation Committee, another fantastic group of people. We strive to educate, appreciate and inspire our donors (and future donors) about the important work the Y does for our communities.

I volunteer with the Y because: The tireless efforts of the Y ensure no one is turned away because of their inability to pay. And because the Y promotes personal engagement and empowerment, both of which promote personal success.

Volunteering in general is important to me because: Offering my time for the betterment of others is simply gratifying; I might get as much pleasure out of it as the people I’m helping!

What’s your advice for people who are thinking about volunteering for the Y? There are countless ways to volunteer at the Y, from aquatics to zumba… No matter what your strength (physical, emotional, intellectual or financial), we need you!

What’s your favorite part of volunteering? Watching in real time how my volunteering helps people: a child learning to swim, a working parent’s stress reduced knowing their kids are in safe childcare, and cancer survivors thriving in yoga class.
