YMCA Youth Triathlon Squad (Ages 8-15)

Youth Triathlon Squad is a four-week triathlon training block for young athletes to condition and build a strong foundation in swimming, biking and running. Join us for weekly coached swimming, indoor cycling and running sessions. Athletes of all abilities and experience levels are welcome on our squad! Whether you are an absolute beginner or an experienced athlete, our coaches will provide appropriate training based on your individual needs in an encouraging and motivating environment. Participants are required to provide their own swim, bike and run gear.

Meet Coach Corey: As a young endurance athlete, Corey completed his first long-distance race as a 12-year-old, breaking 2 hours in a 15.5-mile running competition. After college and doing a tour in Iraq as a Marine, Corey began his journey with triathlon, and he has since worked with some of the best coaches in the world. Corey is a two-time USAT All American Triathlete and is working torward racing professionally. Corey is excited to share his passion for the sport with young athletes as our triathlon coach.

Cardio Games (Ages 8-12)

Come add fun and movement to your day with 30 minutes of instructor lead intervals and games followed by core, body weight strength training and stretching. This class is a great way to stay active and make new friends!

Youth Circuit Training (Ages 11-12)

A class to help youth learn proper circuit training techniques to ensure optimal safety and strength development. All 13 pieces of circuit equipment will be covered. Participants will learn how to use an exercise log while training together. Each class will start with an extensive warm-up and will then move onto movement prep and lifting exercises; we will finish with core and flexibility work. Class meets in Group Exercise room for warm-up, body weight and dumbbell exercises before heading to the circuit equipment.

Youth Strength Free Weights (Ages 12-14)

In this course, youth learn proper techniques for training with free-weights. With the right technique, you will safely develop optimal strength in no time. This course covers traditional exercises like squatting, pressing, rowing, lunging and rotations. Participants will learn the building blocks and progressions found in an effective program while working hard together. Each class will start with an extensive warm-up and will then move onto movement prep and lifting exercises and will finish with core and flexibility work.

La Familia Boxing (Ages 8-16)

Hosted at the Longmont Y, La Familia Boxing teaches kids and teens commitment, dedication, discipline, honor and respect through the sport of boxing. Both boys and girls are welcome to join this program at the Longmont Y to discover a hard-hitting sport that can change lives. Hand wraps are needed to participate.

Shotokan: Traditional Japanese Karate

Increase physical fitness, coordination, confidence, discipline, concentration and knowledge of self-defense skills. Bruce Green, chief instructor and 8th-degree black belt, is assisted by John Burdick, 5th degree black belt, as well as CJ Herman and Maelo Maldonado, both 4th degree black belts. Bruce Green has been training in karate for 48 years and is a certified instructor, examiner, and judge. The style of karate taught is Shotokan, a traditional form of Japanese karate. Master Yutaka Yaguchi is our regional chief instructor.

Endurance Sports and Games in the Water (Ages 13-17)

A new class designed to expose swimmers to many types of water activities. We do a little of everything — competitive swimming, synchronized swimming, water polo and snorkeling. This new format will help swimmers develop healthy lifestyles by being active, building confidence, socializing and having fun.

Sports Specific Coaching

Basketball and Volleyball (Ages 8+)

Grow your game! This one-on-one training is designed specifically for the young athlete who wants to progress in his or her sport. Your child can take his or her game to the next level with a highly experienced Y Certified Coach. Trainings are offered year-round.
