DETAILS

The YMCA of Northern Colorado offers Youth Basketball Programs for play-focused beginners, basketball loving kiddos and competition-craving athletes. We offer basketball programs almost year-round throughout Boulder, Lafayette, Longmont and Johnstown, guaranteeing there are opportunities for every young basketball player (or future basketball player) to play, learn or grow through Y sports. Whether your child just wants a fun introduction to basketball or they are looking for some serious league action, the Y has a variety of progressive programs that meet our players where they are and celebrate who they are.

Join us for the upcoming season to become a part of our Y Basketball clinics, learn-to-play programs or leagues.

We’ve organized our basketball programs geographically. Boulder Valley covers basketball programs in Boulder and Lafayette, and Northern Colorado Basketball covers programs in Longmont and the Johnstown area.

Did you know the YMCA invented basketball? That’s a fact: The first game of basketball was played in a YMCA gym thanks to the imagination and innovation of James Naismith, a Y physical education teacher.

That makes us experts.

The YMCA of Northern Colorado has offered children’s basketball programs in Boulder County for decades, and we are happy to continue the tradition in our Boulder, Lafayette and Longmont gyms. We are also thrilled to bring kids basketball to Weld County, where we are developing and expanding basketball opportunities in Johnstown and Milliken.

No matter our history, YMCA basketball programs have evolved into a welcoming community of families and players who believe in the power of sports. Today, we offer dunk-worthy basketball programs for kids across nation — helping our youngest participants learn to listen, understand the principles of the sport and begin to develop basketball basic skills like dribbling and passing. As our kids grow, do does their understanding of the sport, their abilities, their athleticism and their passion for basketball. At the same time, YMCA athletes learn sportsmanship, hard work, team work, confidence and determination.

And let’s not forget fun. So much fun! We believe the key to getting kids passionate about sports and staying active is making the experience both fun and foundational. There will be games. There will be high fives. There will be giggles.
