SPORTS INFO & FAQS

SPORTS FAQs

What does “Priority Registration Period for Y Members” mean?

  • Current Y members are eligible to register during our priority registration period.
  • Players registered during the priority registration period are teamed first, and as with all players, requests are taken into account.

What does the Regular Registration Period mean?

  • During the regular registration period, players are teamed in the order they register according to requests made in their registration and expected rosters submitted by volunteer coaches.
  • In the event a player has not made any requests at the time of their registration, school and geographical information will be used to place them with a team for the season.

What does the Late Registration Period mean?

  • The late registration period begins immediately following the conclusion of the regular registration period. The late registration period corresponds with our team formation deadline and indicates that limited space is available in the program.
  • Registrations received during the late period will be processed in the order they are received, and players will be placed on teams as space allows.
  • If a late period registrant would like to cancel their participation in the program, the waitlist period fee is non-refundable.

I’m registered. When will I know what team my player is on?

  • You can expect to receive your child’s team placement for the season approximately two weeks prior to games beginning. This includes coach information, team roster and practice time if applicable.
  • Tables with the specific dates for each season are included in the program guide and are available on this page.
  • You can expect to receive the game schedule for the season approximately one week prior to games beginning.
  • Team and game information is communicated via email by a sports director or through Playerspace, the team management platform utilized by the YMCA of Boulder Valley.

Can my player be on the same team as their friend/classmate?

  • You are able to request a coach, player(s) and practice days that work best for you at the time of registration. Sports directors take all requests into consideration when creating team rosters but cannot guarantee your requests can be accommodated.

How do team rosters get built?

  • Players are teamed according to the requests made at the time of their registration, expected rosters submitted by volunteer coaches, and any school or geographical information included in their registration questionnaire.
  • Sports directors are not able to guarantee that all requests can be accommodated.

How are team practices scheduled?

  • Sports directors work directly with volunteer coaches to schedule practices based on what is available during a given season.
  • Available practice options are determined by the space available within our YMCAs and area school sites.
  • Sports directors do their best to accommodate practice requests made within sports registrations, but cannot guarantee requested practice days or locations are available.

What equipment does my player need ahead of a program or season?

  • Generally, players are encouraged to wear athletic shoes and the required uniform for their particular sport/program. For Soccer, Flag Football and Lacrosse, cleats are encouraged.
  • Specific equipment needs vary by sport and season. Please refer to the program description, welcome emails and other information sent by our sports directors ahead of a program.

What is the YMCA of Boulder Valley’s Weather Policy?

  • In the event weather forces a program cancellation, the weather hotline will be updated at least two hours prior to the start of a program. On game days, updates will be posted two hours prior to the start of the first game of the day.
  • You can reach the YMCA of Boulder Valley Weather Hotline by calling 303-827-2252.

We can’t play anymore. How do I get a refund?

  • If a refund is requested prior to the conclusion of the regular registration period, the participant is eligible for a refund less a $10 processing fee.
  • The processing fee will not be charged if a credit to your Y account is requested instead of a refund to a credit card or as a check.
  • No refunds or credits will be authorized after the first session/practice/game.
  • All fees paid will be refunded in full when the YMCA cancels a program.
  • Refunds will not be granted solely based on the inability of the YMCA to accommodate coach, practice or player requests made at the time of registration.
