Teen Day of Service: MLK Day

Monday, January 21

Take part in this free event for middle to high school aged students to become educated on the effort and works of Martin Luther King Jr. for social justice and equality in America. Teens will also be taking part in a service project for most of the day. Check in begins at the Mapleton Y at 8AM.

Morning (9AM-11:45PM)

In the morning, we will leave at 9:00 am to head over to Angevine Middle School in Lafayette to participate in the MLK march. We’ll help create poster boards for the younger children and help guide participants on the march from Angevine to City Park. The event will commence with a pre-march celebration featuring a welcome by Congressman Joe Neguse with live entertainment, refreshments and service projects at Angevine Middle School (1150 W. South Boulder Rd.) at 11:00 am.

Afternoon (12:30PM-4PM)

At 12:30 pm, we will march from Angevine Middle School to City Park, where we will have lunch (please bring your own). We will work with the youth advisory committee of Lafayette to create a mural where each person will write their dream on a feather and build a giant angel wing to display. We will be helping assisting in game activities and show tribute, service and solidarity on this memorable day. We’ll be back at the Mapleton Y for pickup by 4:00 pm.

It will be an excellent day for education around the history of social justice and the ability to give back to our communities. It can also count for service hours if you need them. We look forward to working with you and having a great time!

Participation in Teen Day of Service is free, but registration is required.
