SWIM BASICS

Swim Basics, for ages 5-12, are introductory classes divided into three progressive stages that include the foundations of water safety, basic swimming skills and focusing on swimming to safety.

Stage 1: Water Acclimation

The Water Acclimation Class introduces swimmers to the pool and helps them develop safe water habits in a fun and encouraging environment. In water acclimation, swimmers develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water. This stage lays the foundation that allows for the participant’s future progress in swimming.

Stage 2: Water Movement

In this class, swimmers are taught skills that focus on body position and control, directional change and forward movement in the water while also reinforcing how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water.

Stage 3: Water Stamina

In the class, swimmers focus on swimming longer distances and are introduced to rotary breathing and integrated arm and leg action.

SWIM STROKES

Swim Strokes, for ages 5-12, include three stages that cover introduction and refinement of swimming strokes as well as cultivating a healthy lifestyle.

Stage 4: Stroke Introduction

In this class, swimmers focus on developing basic swimming strokes and personal water safety.

Stage 5: Stroke Development

In this class, students continue to work on their stroke technique and all major competitive strokes are introduced

Stage 6: Stroke Mechanics

In this class, students refine their stroke technique on all of the major competitive strokes and learn about competitive swimming and how to incorporate swimming into a healthy lifestyle.

PLEASE NOTE: Swim Starters as well as Preschool and School Age lessons under level 4 will resume in February. Private and semi-private lessons under level 4 will resume January 18. To ensure proper social distancing, parents are required to participate in lessons under level 4. Swimmers and parents stay in the water. The instructor will remain on the pool deck. Each parent will help the instructor with their child’s body position in the water to eliminate physical contact with non-family members.

Registration closes three days prior to the lesson start date to give us time to coordinate each lesson. If you would like to sign up for lessons after registration closes, please call the Aquatics Department to see if space is still available.
