Volunteer of the Month: Grant McKenzie

Apr 2, 2018, 10:07 AM by Y Staff

Name: Grant McKenzie

How long have you volunteered for the Y? I have been volunteering at the Y for about 6 months, and I hope to continue working at the Y until I head to college in 2020.

I support the Y by: Helping out with their basketball program. I help with officiating   games, and I help with the clinics. The clinics is where I teach basketball to kids in grades 1st through 3rd.

I volunteer with the Y because: I teach kids the right way how to play basketball. I also get school credit for the all of the hours I volunteer.

Volunteering in general is important to me because: I always think there is a way to help any nonprofit organization like the YMCA.

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in volunteering: The advice I would give to potential YMCA volunteers is to just offer help and don’t be afraid to get help from others.

Why We Love Grant

"Grant McKenzie is a high school student who has recently moved to Colorado from Chicago. He had gotten in touch with the Y, wanting to get involved with youth sports, because it is his passion. This past basketball season Grant has grown to be one of our most trusted and reliable faces out on the courts. Grant embodies the spirit volunteerism and represents the Y in a fun and positive way." — Nate Lundy, Program Director: Basketball, Flag Football, Baseball, & Coach Coordinator
